Zephyrix'07 Uruvaana kathai.......

It all started one month ago. We have planned to conduct this as a Mega Event. Since we are in our final year we wanted to make it. Even when we were in our II year we contributed to our department symposium. But last year we were not allowed to involve in our symposium activities......Kaalgal kattappatta Ottap panthaya veeran pol irunthom.....But this year our Hod Mam gave full freedom......She handed over the responsibility of conducting the entire event to us.
We listed 10 events and we formed the respective committees.

The next step is to name the event. We wanted to change the name that was given for the past 6 years. The name must express softness. So we started thinking.........The word "breeze" came to our mind.....But it so common.......The equivalent word for breeze "Zephyr" is catching. We added suffix and framed "ZEPHYRIX'07" after having a long discussion. The other names that were suggested are "ARMAGEDDON", "FUZORZ".

The name "Zephyrix" does not express challenge. So while designing the poster we added the
"Rubik's Cube" which expresses the challenge. The poster and the logo were desingned by our GFX committee.

For getting sponsors we formed a team and they tried their level best. The next step is to prepare the questions for the events. All the event members were very much involved and interested in making this event a grand success. So all the event organisers worked hard and gave ideas to conduct it in a different manner. We got guidance from the ssn college passed out students sorry friends. Each and every part was properly planned. Mahesh,Mama,Vijay took the in charge of Dumb-C event. Raja,Boopathi have taken care of the Ad-Zap event. Babbu and Samba were the organisers of the Quiz event. Me and Dhadi took the in charge of conducting the Debugging and the Programming event. Siddhu took care of the Gamming Event.

All of us had only one thing in our mind. That is this event must create a record in the history of Sairam. We set a target of 800 participants. Boopu gave ideas for the presentation. Each and every part of the event has been properly planned and arranged accordingly. Ramanathan took in charge of the printing work. Even the id cards were printed in a different manner. Myself and mahesh started marketing in orkut. All of us changed our profile name and photo.

Even the day before the event all the students were busy in their work. Many unforgettable incidents happened which i don't want to explain. Eventhough the organisers of Zephyrix'07 were working hard to make it as a mega event. This was the only thing in our mind for the past one month.

Silappathikaram

Silapathikaram is one of the five great epics written in Tamil language. This Master-piece was written by the great tamil poet "Elangovadigal". The name came from Silambu+Athikaram (சிலம்பு+அதிகாரம்). The entire story is based on the silambu.

The story of Kannagi plays an important role in history of Madurai. There lived a merchant by name "Maasaathuvaan" in Kaveripoompattinam. He had a son called "Kovalan". He was married to "Kannagi".She was the beautiful daughter of a merchant by name "Maanaikkan".

Later Kovalan fell in love with a beautiful dancer called "Madhavi". He became a spendthrift and soon he lost all his property. On the occasion of "Indira " festival in Kaveripoomopattinam, he had a dispute with Madhavi and he went back to Kannagi. He decided to live with Kannagi. Inorder to regain his property, he went to Madurai along with his wife kannagi to start a business. They were accompanied by "Kavunthiadigal".But she continued her journey after leaving the Kovalan and Kannagi in "Puranjery" where they were accompanied by "Madhari" who was a cowherdess. She helped the couple in all ways.Kannagi gave her Jewelled anklet ("Silambu") to Kovalan and asked him to sell it so that he can start his new business. Kovalan went to market to sell one of Kannagi's anklets. In the meantime, the queen of Pandiyan King Nedunchezhiyan,lost her anklets ("Silambu").

Actually, the court Jeweller had robbed the queen's anklets. Once the wicked jeweller happened to see Kovalan with Kannagi's anklets in the market. He seized the anklet from Kovalan and informed the king about it. The king sent gaurds to arrest Kovalan. Kovalan was accused of having stolen the queen's anklets and was killed as per the king's order. Actually the king mispronounced the sentence "கொண்டக் கள்வனை கொணர்க" meaning "Arrest him and investigate" and said "கொன்றக் கள்வனை கொணர்க" which means "Punish him by killing". When Kannagi came to know about the news, she went out into the town,with her eyes ablaze with anger, carrying the remaining anklet in her hand as proof of her husband's innocence. She made the king realise the truth by breaking her anklet which was made of Manickam. When Pandiyan king came to know that he had punished an innocent ,he died in his throne by saying "Oh! I am the thief and he is not the thief" ("யானோ அரசன்? நானே கள்வன்"). The queen also died at that spot.Kannagi burnt Madurai into ashes in consequence to the injustice caused to her husband Kovalan.

It contains three chapters.
1. Puharkkandam, which deals with the events in the Chola city of Puhar, where Kannagi and Kovalan start their married life and Kovalan leaves his wife for the courtesan Madavi. Clik here to read fully.
